Having worked 5 years in the medical field in a hospital laboratory with a BS in Medical Technology, I started my carpentry experience with assisting in remodeling of a building our church owned. I then took a side job with a construction company in 1985, remodeling and eventually new construction. My love of carpentry increased and my skills advanced especially in the finishing end of the home construction process. In 1996, after 21 years in the medical field, the hospital where I worked went through a downsizing. I was offered an attractive, but not great, departure package. After prayer and looking at the options, my wife and I decided to start a carpentry business which we called “Rosewood Custom Carpentry”. I worked for 3 years on my own, doing small remodeling jobs: kitchens, decks, basements, and garages. In 1999 we started building our own dream house.
A long time friend and co-worker in my early construction days, Mike Ryland, returned from the Chicago area to help me finish my house. Mike and I went into partnership and began remodeling and building custom homes in the Northern Illinois and Chicago areas as 2 Perfect Construction Inc. (see our Portfolio)
In 2005, we came to Kaua’i to build a home for a client from Illinois. We never left paradise. My wife Ruth, son David, and Abigail (1 of twin daughters) moved to Kaua’i in 2006. The other twin is married with 3 children living in Dekalb, IL. Abbey is completing her Masters in Public Health in 2012, David remains on Kaua’i with us anticipating college in the near future. As a popular song says: “Kaua’i, my home.” We love it here!
